Hello everyone! College studies can be both thrilling and daunting. With so many majors to choose from, many of you might be asking life’s big question, “What should I study in college?” In a way, this decision can chart the course of your life, defining your purpose and life’s priorities. It’s not just about getting a degree—it’s about finding your passion, your calling.
We all have some hobbies and sort of know what we enjoy or are good at. But is your interest serious enough to make it a career? That’s what’s confusing. Even daunting.
I’ve been there! I mean, how often have you wondered, “Which major is most competitive?” or “What majors are most happy?” From the most competitive majors (hi, business and robotics!) to those touted to bring you happiness (hello, a degree in linguistics or pop culture!), the range is vast. However, here’s no one-size-fits-all answer.
But fear not! I’ve crafted something just for you—a college major quiz specifically designed for high school students and college freshmen like yourself. Tailored with insights and inspired by the very essence of prestigious institutions like Harvard, our “What should I major in?” quiz might just be the compass you need. Based on your innate talents, passions, and skills, this personality quiz will help you decide once and for all.

How to Decide Your Major
Before we get into the quiz, let’s do some self-reflection. Choosing a major isn’t about following your friends or being lured by the glitz and glam of a ‘popular’ choice. Instead, let your inner inclinations guide you. What you like to study might even be different than what profession you love (it was for me).
So here are 5 steps to take or really think about in order to narrow down your major in college:
- Self-Reflection: What do you love doing that makes you feel happy? What are you good at? Begin by analyzing your passions, strengths, and long-term goals.
- Research: Dive deep into the curriculum, future prospects, and requirements of potential majors.
- Consultation: Speak with college advisors, professionals in the field, or recent graduates to gather insights.
- Trial Period: Enroll in introductory courses, grab an internship or attend workshops to get a hands-on feel for the subject.
- Evaluate Future Prospects: Consider the job market, potential earnings, and career longevity associated with the major. Or read a professional’s perspective on the career path you’re thinking about.
